Rich in culture, there are many theatres in Wellington that cater to all tastes and preferences. The St James Theatre and Opera House has performances running throughout the year of all genres. Comedies, live music, ballet, musicals and dramas are just some of the great live performances that you can catch here, and whatever time of year you visit there will be something playing to suit your taste.

One of the main parts of going away is eating out and tasting new dishes and local specialities. The choice of eateries is Wellington is vast and varied and caters for all tastes from pizza to a la carte. Arbitraguer is a multi award winning and unique restaurants that serves cuisine from the areas that their wine list comes from. This makes for a dining experience you have to partake in yourself to truly appreciate.

Another firm favourite in Wellington is the Boulcott Street Bistro and Winebar, which prides itself on its relaxed atmosphere, well thought out menu and exemplary wine list. Logan’s Browns is a restaurant that started up in 1996 with a sole aim; to take the standard of New Zealand dining to a new level but also show that a restaurant doesn’t have to be stiff and formal to produce great food. It has achieved its goal tenfold.

As far as bars and clubs go, it all depends what kind of establishment you prefer. CO2 on Blair Street is a very chic bar that serves sparkling wines and champagnes, whilst the revamped Matterhorn Bar and Lounge on Cuba Street is the place to go for cocktails. If you want a relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy a chat, a drink and maybe shoot some pool, then head down to the Q Bar and Lounge on Courtenay Place.
