Geology Of New Zealand

geology-of-new-zealand1New Zealand is located in the boundary between two tectonic plates, the Pacific Plate and the Australian plate. This causes the volcanism across the islands, especially the North Island.

The country uses its moderate volcanism producing heat and electrical power plants in many hydrothermal vents.

New Zealand is able to provide all the electricity needed given the amount of energy from the water in the South Island and volcanic energy in the North Island.

Some volcanoes are also famous tourist destinations, like the geysers of Rotorua. The two plates but also causing regular earthquakes are usually not serious.

There are many karst formations of sedimentary rocks they call the attention of tourism. These include the Waitomo Caves and the Pancake Rocks.
