Omanaia

Omanaia is a settlement in the Far North district in the Northland region in the North Island of New Zealand. It is located about east of the Hokianaga Harbour on State Highway 12. The nearest villages are Oue, about three kilometers west, and Waima, about six kilometers north-east. There is a golf course northeast of the town. Located on a spur of side streets west of Omanaia, connections exist to the north, both to the port towns of Ohuri and Rawene. From these, a ferry crosses the harbor to Rangiora.

In the 1830s, the Maori chief of Omanaia, Papahurihia, led a nationalist movement against the spread of Christianity around the Hokianga. Omanaia School, the primary school of Omanaia, is a coeducational school for grades 1-8. In 2009 it had a decile rating of 3, and 37 students.
