Student Hang Outs in AucklandAuckland University boast thousands of students  who descend on the city looking for cut price fun. There is a vast range of both established student bars and unofficial watering holes dotted around the city that all have 2 things in common; a young crowd and cheap drinks. These are just a few of the best establishments that students head to in Wellington.

The Ferguson Bar is everything that a student bar should be. A mixed crowd have a wild time while chugging the cheap drinks and demolishing the great pizzas. Be prepared to stand in a queue if you arrive after 10pm on a Friday or Saturday night, as this is THE place to be at the weekend. The outdoor area is a good place to catch some rays while enjoying a few cold beers and a great time in guaranteed, inside or out.

Shadows and Eliv8 are both situated on the top floor of the student union building on the Uni campus. The former is open 6 days a week until late and is possibly the biggest and best known student bar in the whole of New Zealand. They have numerous deals and offers all day every day as well as different themed events and daily evening entertainment with everything from live bands to pub quizzes.

Eliv8, on the other hand, is a place to come to eat and socialise in a totally relaxed atmosphere. This licenced cafe with an extensive menu and vast array of drinks is open daily until 8pm and is the popular place to go and eat and have a few drinks before heading into Shadows to make a real night of it.

Vesbar is a friendly, laid back bar in the centre of the AUT campus in the heart of the city. It’s outdoor seating area comfortably accommodates over 50 people, and its also a popular venue for holding birthday parties etc. It is a lot smaller that Shadows and while it gets busy is never as packed. The cosy, intimate atmosphere appeals to those students who like to partake in the art of conversation over their drinks.
