Ahaura

Ahaura is a village in New Zealand. It is in the Gray district of the West Coast region at the mouth of Ahaura in the Gray River. State Highway 7 and the Stillwater Westport railway line pass through the town. The nearest towns are Greymouth 34km south west and Reefton 44km northeast.

The population of the statistical district og Ahaura, which amounted to a much larger area than the city itself comprises, in 2006 was 390 Ahaurainhabitants, a decline of 21 since 2001. The European colonization of the area began in 1858 with the use of grazing land at the confluence of Ahura and Gray River.

The Awahono Gray Valley School is a coeducational primary school for 1-8 year olds, with currently 113 pupils. Their rating is 4. This school was built in early 2005 from the merger of the schools of Ahaura, Moonlight, Ngahere and Totara Flat.
