Ohaeawai

Ohaeawai is a small village in the Far North district in the Northland region in the North Island of New Zealand. It lies at the junction between State Highway 1 and State Highway 12, approximately 250 kilometers from Auckland. The census of 2006 showed Ohaeawai had 711 inhabitants, a decrease of 15 since the previous census in 2001.

The site of the 1845 Battle of Ohaeawai at Pene tawy Pa is found near the town. The town of Kaikohe is located to the west, east of the Bay of Islands. West of Ohaeawai lays the small resort of Ngawha Springs, which benefits from medicinal waters in a small, active, geothermal area. The new regional Northland jail is also located near the resort. The village center is an area dominated by farms.

Ohaeawai has a contributing primary school for grades 1-6. In 2009, the Ohaeawai School had a decile rating of 2 and 164 students.
