Waihi Beach

Waihi Beach is a coastal village in the western Bay of Plenty on the  North Island of New Zealand, 10km east of Waihi at the base of the Coromandel Peninsula. Administratively, the place belongs to the Western Bay of Plenty District.

Numerous fortified villages (PA) were located within a few kilometers of Waihi BeachWaihi Beach. The European colonization began in earnest with the discovery of gold in 1870. The ores, however, proved difficult to access and the mine was profitable for many years, (Martha Mine in the town of Waihi).

Waihi Beach and the nearby settlement of Bowentown at the western end of Tauranga Harbor are popular holiday resorts. .
